Time & Again (DC & Hook City Strings)

2024 Remix From Northwinds 1977 – Roger Glover, Django John Punter, Mack

On the original recording of Time & Again, David sang while playing on the electric piano, however an accident occured where both his vocal and the piano were printed onto the same track.

The whole band told him “That’s the take! You have to keep it!”

At a later time David discovered he wasn’t entirely happy with the electric piano part, and the recording mistake was uncovered. With deadline pressure mounting, and there not being the time or technology to correct this, David had to live with the result, not being able to listen to the track in 40 years .

With technological growth in the last 5 years, the Hook City Studio team learned of an audio restoration software that could “unmix” and separate different instruments printed together in a song. Trying every open source software available, and years of failed attempts, we eventually found the perfect balance to make David’s voice stand on its own without artifacts, thanks to the incredible assistance by AudioShake.

This allowed us to create two new versions of the song, replacing the electric piano with a string quartet as seen in this video below, and another soon to be featured with the release of “Into The Light” box set.

Stream and preorder here.

Also included on Into The Light: The Solo Albums, Including Northwinds and Whitesnake will be available from Rhino.com on October 25 as a 6-CD boxed set. It comes packaged in a hardcover box featuring a 60-page book with rare photos, detailed liner notes, and a new interview with Coverdale.

This is the song that played at my wedding back in 96.
It’s nice to see a reimagining of this

I loved ‘Time & Again’ the way it was, from day one when I bought the album in England in ´79. I was a young drummer at sixteen (singing everyday as well ) on summer holiday with my family after finishing my ninth grade. Since then I´ve listened to ‘Northwinds’ and the first album ‘White Snake’ a zillion times. I still love them for your great songs, your massively inspiring singing and your musicians excellent performances. It´s also very nice to now hear ‘Time & Again’ with a string ensemble – great work! I am a musician, and a fan of yours till the day I die. You have no idea just how much your music have ment and still means to me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Lovely song and performance! Speaking of which, my biggest dream is to hear David explore his lower range more… He has such a beautiful, natural lower range full of passion and depth, it would be amazing to hear more songs in that range showing the other part of his voice because not everyone has that! I’ve heard many fans wishing for the same, it would be a delight

Me and my friend Recorses our own version of Time and Again on a casett tape 1981 and sent to a whitesnake consortes in Stockholm. We First sent to Hotel Anglais where we thought rather band would stay, and we met John Lord and Ian P in the lobby. We were 16 and they were so nice to us. We handed them the casett and asked if they could play it for David. John came back after an hour and said to my keyboard playing friend “whatch your hands, an to me he said something like “take care of your voice”. The song has been with me as a gem ever since. And a very good memory that I will treasure til the day I die.
