To Celebrate The 30th Anniversary Of The Live Performance, A Remastered 17 Track Collection Of The Band’s Full Performance Will Be Released Digitally On The Same Day
LOS ANGELES – Whitesnake are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their legendary set at Monsters of Rock with a new streaming concert, Live At Donington, that will feature the band’s classic live performance the official Whitesnake YouTube channel. The screening will be preceded by a live, on-camera pre-show and Q&A with David Coverdale, Steve Vai, Adrian Vandenberg, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge, who will reunite for the first time since they finished their “Slip Of The Tongue World Tour,” in celebration of this memorable event. The Q&A stream will go live on Tuesday, August 18, at 11:30AM PST on the band’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. The concert broadcast will take place at 12:30PM PST, the exact same time as the band took the stage 30 years ago in the UK.
On the same day, Whitesnake will release LIVE AT DONINGTON 1990 (30TH ANNIVERSARY COMPLETE EDITION), a remastered 17 track collection of the band’s entire performance, digitally. All of the songs from the performance have been remastered. This new digital collection includes a mix of hits and deep tracks, including “Is This Love” from Whitesnake’s multi-platinum self-titled album and the #1 smash “Here I Go Again.” There are also four instrumental tracks that feature virtuosic guitar solos including, “Adagio for Strato,” “Flying Dutchman Boogie,” “For The Love Of God,” “The Audience Is Listening” and an explosive drum solo from the extraordinary Tommy Aldridge.
“I can’t wait to be reunited with Steve, Adrian, Rudy and Tommy, even if it’s just for this online moment…” says Coverdale. “They were without a doubt one of the best, most explosive, exciting musical collectives I’ve ever had the pleasure of sharing a global stage with…super people, super musicians…an absolute SUPERGROUP!!!”
This performance at the Monsters of Rock festival in Donington, U.K. marked their third appearance and second time headlining the famous festival. The band had recently released their third consecutive platinum record and eighth studio album, Slip of the Tongue. Originally released in November 1989, it peaked at number 10 on the U.K. and U.S. album charts. In 2019, Rhino released a 30th Anniversary Edition of the album, along with a unboxing video featuring David Coverdale which can be found here.

I hope they – vai, vandenberg, sarzo, aldridge -get back together and do new songs … they were a fantastic band … also, I hope Aldridge and Sarzo join vandenberg and Romero for a new Manic Eden album and tour !! Manic Eden – the under rated rock album that’s fantastic in my book …

I’ll never forget seeing the SOTT lineup in Philly- loud, energetic, and just an amazing show … didnt have any hearing for about an hour after the show … Aldridge’s drums were a pounding machine gun … Vai and Vandenberg were a great team, in my opinion – SORT of like the way Blackmore and Lord were a great team in DP … one classical – fighting against the world – the other passion and warfare – blistering, intense, accurate, and fun !

My wife and I had one of our early dates at the concert at Pine Knob north of Detroit on that tour. I was a huge Steve Vai nut and came to love Whitesnake that same year.

I pray after this pandemic passes, that every one will be able to tour. And share your talents. Ie: please come down to central n.e. Florida, was spoiled in New England had a circle of 7ish states that were drivable from the Boston area…. ah the good old days…. but seriously, please play central next Florida, its a long state 6 hrs to Miami, 4 to Tampa, 2 Orlando, 1 Jacksonville… but for a great show will get there! 🎵🎸🥁🎤🎹🎶❣

I was at the Donington 1990 gig – what a day that was! And contrary to the critics I thought Whitesnake were class! I was supposed to see Whitesnake two times this year, fingers crossed for a return to some kind of normality soon and a return to live gigs!!

Hello from Japan! Happy 30th anniversary on Live at Donington, Whitesnake!
I have a question. I’ve been enjoying the song Crying in the Rain live by WS SOTT line-up with my copies or on Youtube. I feel the live versions of the beginning / introduction of the song is like a petit guitar battle / dialogue between Adje and Steve. It’s really an emotional cry from the bottom of the heart but the balance between Adrian’s solos and Steve’s ones is very good. I ask you guys, mainly Adje and Steve, did you prepared thoroughly the petit guitar battle / dialogue part of the Crying in the rain before WS tour 1990, for example, having a serious discussion? Or improvisation to some degree?
I’m looking forward to a good reply from you. Thanks!
Sharon

Question for the Flying Dutchman!
Hi Adje, been a big fan for years and was definitely a stand out at school in 2008 with my tribute giant hair and polka dot shirt.
I’ve always loved Adagio for Strato – the first part of your solo at Donnington. Were/are there plans to record this piece?
Still hoping/saving for a Vandenberg Puzzle Guitar,

Hi Whitesnake!
My question is, what was the guitar rig (amp, pedals etc) that the legendary duo Steve Vai and Adrian Vandenberg used at that show? The tones are massive and beautiful combined. Much love to David, Adrian, Steve, Tommy and Rudy! – Herman, 15

How did you guys split the solos for each of the set?

Hi David!
Just wondering why you’ve never played «looking for love» of the 1987 album live? Btw u are the greatest vocalist of all time! -Herman, 15

This was the only Monster’s Of Rock I went to. Feels like a better format with all bands getting a decent set list than the current set up. Would jump at the chance to see this Whitesnake line up again and the bill of Quireboys, Thunder, Poison and Aerosmith

How about revisiting the original northwards tour taking in Lincoln, Scarborough Harrogate etc and doing small intimate gigs in those unfashionable locations ? Perhaps incorporate a few of those with the bigger venues on the UK leg.

While so many bands have lost their master tapes or have no control over them, how has David managed to keep all the multitracks to get these remix projects off the ground? Based on Judgement Day off The ROCK Album, the full Slip of the Tongue remix is going to be smashing!

Listening to this concert again — the remaster really makes Judgement Day stand out … in this regard – Vandenberg’s acoustic really stands out and Vai’s eastern playing in the middle (that ring-a-ding-sound that SORT of mimics the acoustic ) is really audible … (always thought that part from Hai sounded cool and should even be brought out higher in the studio version) – and Vandenberg’s solo sounds better than ever … great tone and great playing … in fact maybe the best I’ve ever heard him sound live … great remaster !
